Acceptance of these terms
By visiting bilaraby.qa, registering for an event, subscribing to our newsletter or contributing work to the initiative, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the site.
BilAraby is an initiative of Qatar Foundation. Where these terms refer to “we”, “us” or “BilAraby”, they refer to the initiative and the team that operates it.
Using the site
The site is offered for personal, educational and cultural use. You are welcome to read, watch, listen, quote and share what you find here.
You agree not to
- Interfere with the site, its security, or the experience of other visitors.
- Collect content automatically at a scale that disrupts the service.
- Present BilAraby material as your own work or as an official statement of Qatar Foundation.
- Upload anything unlawful, defamatory, or harmful to others.
We may suspend access where use of the site materially affects its availability or the safety of our community.
Accounts and subscriptions
Some features — event registration, the translators directory, newsletter preferences — require an account or an email address. You are responsible for the accuracy of the details you give us and for keeping your sign-in details private.
You may unsubscribe from any mailing at any time using the link in the email, or by writing to us. Removing your account does not remove published contributions that are already part of the public record of an event.
Events, registration and attendance
Registration for the Annual Gathering, workshops and talk series is confirmed by email and may be limited by capacity. Where a session is oversubscribed we operate a waiting list.
- Registrations are personal and may not be resold or transferred without our agreement.
- Programmes may change; we will publish updates on the event page and notify registered attendees.
- Our venues are filmed and photographed. Attending means you may appear in that material.
- We ask all attendees to follow the venue rules and our community code of conduct.
If a session is cancelled by us and you paid a fee, that fee is refunded in full. Most BilAraby events are free to attend.
Contributions from the community
Speakers, translators, writers and partners contribute a great deal of what appears on this site. When you contribute, you keep the rights in your work.
You grant BilAraby a non-exclusive, worldwide licence to publish, translate, subtitle, excerpt and archive that contribution as part of the initiative, including on our channels and in the pages of this site. We credit contributors by name wherever the work appears.
You confirm that the work is yours to share, and that publishing it does not breach anyone else’s rights.
Intellectual property
The BilAraby name, the logo, the visual identity and the design of this site belong to Qatar Foundation and may not be reproduced without written permission.
What you may do without asking
- Quote short passages of our articles and transcripts with attribution and a link.
- Embed our published videos and episodes using the tools provided.
- Use our press materials for editorial coverage of the initiative.
Anything beyond this — commercial reuse, redistribution of full recordings, derivative works — needs our written agreement first.
Third-party platforms and links
Our videos, episodes and registrations may be delivered through third-party platforms. Those services have their own terms and privacy practices, and we do not control them.
Links to other websites are offered for your convenience and are not an endorsement of their content.
Privacy and data
We collect only what we need to run the site and its events: your contact details, your registrations, and anonymous statistics about how pages are used.
How we store, use and delete that information is set out in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.
Availability and liability
We work to keep this site accurate and available, but we publish it as it is. Content is offered for information and cultural exchange, not as professional, legal or academic advice.
To the extent permitted by law, BilAraby and Qatar Foundation are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from use of the site or attendance at an event. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
Changes to these terms
We update these terms from time to time as the initiative grows. The version date at the top of this page always tells you when they last changed, and material changes are announced in the newsletter.
Continuing to use the site after an update means you accept the revised terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Qatar, and the courts of Qatar have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
